Slater hosts third Annual Steve McQueen Days Festival on March 27 and 28
Slater will once again play host to their third annual Steve McQueen Days festival in honor of the actor's 79th birthday.
The festivities will take place on March 27 and 28 on Main Street in Slater, Missouri, the boyhood home of the movie icon. Slater is the boyhood home of the movie icon and is located in the heart of central Missouri on 240 highway, just 13 miles from Marshall.
This year's special guests include Pat Johnson and Loren Janes. Johnson, an eighth degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, was McQueen's personal friend and karate instructor. Loren Janes, McQueen's stuntman, worked with the action star from his television western series, Wanted: Dead or Alive to the last film he made, The Hunter. Janes will present film clips from Nevada Smith and The Sand Pebbles, the one film in which McQueen received an Oscar nomination.
The festival will commence with a barbeque dinner and talent show on Friday, March 27. Saturday's highlights will include karate demonstrations, a 5K fun run, a classic car show, motorcycle events and drawing, presentations by Johnson and Janes, a film festival, and a Missouri Wine tasting event. Food and souvenir vendors will also be on hand for what promises to be a fun-filled event.
